Gothic Society: Monastery

The sound of thunder echoes outside the walls of Verges Abbey. You raise your head, the sanctity of matins shattered by the voice of the heavens. You attempt to disregard the unease that echoes in your mind, stilling your thoughts with the recitation of familiar mantras. All is quiet.

The sunrise brings news of the death of the abbot. The refectory is rife with worried looks, and innumerous whispers follow the prior's announcement of the performance of last rites that will be held later in the day. Apparently, he died of unnatural causes. 

You'd heard rumors of discontent amongst your fellow monks - the abbot was well-known for his harsh lessons and far harsher punishments. Still, you never thought that one among your number could be driven to an act as ungodly as this. Your mind begins to race. You know the almoner has a secret. You know the cantor had ambition. You know  the sacrist and the abbot never did see eye to eye on how the monastery had been run. Perhaps it was one of them? Perhaps it was someone who held a more secret and sinister grudge than all of them? 

You can't be certain who's to blame. Which means, for the first time since you've called this abbey home, you can't be certain who to trust.

Gothic Society: Monastery is a setting expansion for Good Society and Gothic Society. Games played in this setting take place entirely in a monastery in the Middle Ages, with the players playing members of a monastic order - monks or nuns.

Gothic Society: Monastery requires both Good Society (Storybrewers, base rules) and Gothic Society (expansion) to play.
